Fairfield, California Information
Fairfield is the county seat of Solano County, affording it numerous industries and businesses that call it home. It is geographically right in the middle of San Francisco and Sacramento, making for a relatively easy commute for those looking to live in a family oriented community that is a bit more affordable than urban areas. The city has a current population of 108,000, but that can fluctuate somewhat as Travis Air Force Base calls the area home.
Fairfield, California Details
This area of California was first inhabited by Native Americans, and there are human artifacts dating back five to six thousand years to prove this fact. It was not until 1810 when Europeans began to arrive on the scene in Fairfield, and fighting to gain control of the region would ensue not long after. In fact, it was in the early 1800s that the Spanish army was ordered to conduct a series of assaults on the Suisun Tribe, resulting in several decades of fighting that would eventually result in the area being dominated by Europeans. The city became officially incorporated in 1903.
Things to Do
Given its location and number of young people, there is always something to do year round in this part of California. It is relatively inland from the coast, providing a great climate to grow grapes and make wine. As such, there are a number of vineyards in the vicinity that offer tours and wine tastings that have become popular with residents and visitors alike. The Wooden Valley Winery and Vezer Family Vineyard are two common weekend destinations where you can enjoy the sunshine, receive a great deal of knowledge about the wine making process, and taste more than a few varieties for yourself. Beer connoisseurs are not to be left out, as Budweiser and Heretic both have breweries in the area and offer regular tours as well.
The Travis Air Force Base Heritage Center is a great place to take the entire family to learn more about the regions proud history of defending America. It is a great place for young people to learn about the value of military service and to appreciate those who have sacrificed so much. There is also the Scandia Family Center. This is a place where the entire family can enjoy the great outdoors, be entertained, eat great food, and create lasting memories. Residents here can go numerous times a year and never grow bored of the activities that are on offer.
As one can imagine, there is much to do outside here. One popular destination is Rockville Hills Regional Park, and this is proof enough that Fairfield is simply an ideal place to grow up together as a family. This particular park is well known for people that enjoy afternoon picnics, hikes, and just enjoy the various activities that one can do in a large open space. The Glashof Sculpture Range is also nearby. This is a unique place that illustrates where great statues are made, and it provides a maze of artifacts to explore and enjoy. There are also numerous recreational facilities located throughout the city to keep everyone of all levels entertained throughout the year.
