The town does not host any junior college or college level educational institutions. About 30% of the adult inhabitants work in the city, with a larger percentage commuting to work nearby. Unemployment stood at 5.3% in September, 2015, slightly below the state average. In 2013, some 11% of residents fell within the poverty range, however.
Retail activities and construction represent leading economic activities in the community. Government employment, manufacturing and education also employ a large number of residents.
The populations enjoys excellent access to road transportation. In addition to the nearby highway, an Amtrak terminal 9 miles away in Davis, offers passenger railroad service.
